Aggregates Education at the Show

ConExpo-Con/Agg 2017 will feature a number of educational sessions for aggregates producers. Following are the sessions scheduled for Friday, March 10, 2017.

ROI of Technology for Aggregates #F11

9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Zeljko Basurovic, Trimble

Tony Gianni, Trimble

Elliot Chisholm, marketing manager, Trimble Loadrite

With more technology options competing for your time and budget where should you start? How does it help me make money? Which technology will help to manage your aggregates operations and what’s the right for your operation? This session identifies the key processes within your operation where technology can make a significant difference and then help you to decide what’s right for you. Learn which costs can be affected by today’s latest technology, what benefits to expect, and how to calculate the impact for your own specific operation. After this session, you will have a framework for thinking about the different ways technology can affect your top and bottom lines, and some tools to do your own calculations.

Learning Objectives:

1. Build skills to isolate the most relevant technology options.

2. Develop a criteria for selecting improvement products and action plan to review options, including ROI calculations.

3. Define a process framework and metrics for the aggregates production and delivery process.

Level: Intermediate (6-10 years of on-the-job experience).

Standards and Practices for Belt Conveyor Safety #F21

11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Jerad Heitzler, Foundations training manager, Martin Engineering

This presentation will look at ways to improve safety for those who must work on and around belt conveyors. This presentation will start with the various hazard points of the conveyor system, and what can be done to mitigate those hazards. It will then turn to work practices including lockout/tagout as well as housekeeping standards and maintenance procedures. And finally, the presentation will look at the benefits of employee training to improve conveyor safety for those who work on or around belt conveyors and for those or who manage the performance of belt conveyor systems.

Learning Objectives:

1. Define the four effective conveyor safety strategies.

2. Understand global best conveyor guarding practices.

3. Learn techniques to eliminate the hazards of conveyors.

Level: Novice (1-5 years of on-the-job experience).

Crushing 101 #F31

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Mark Krause, managing director, McLanahan Corp.

This session provides an overview of crushing. Learn about the different types of primary and secondary crushers, pros and cons associated with the different types, what site conditions to consider when choosing crushers and how to optimize the process given a particular crusher. Topics covered include: types of crushers available, the features and benefits of each along with expected production capabilities, end products, and costs associated with using the various methods. By the end of the session, attendees will know about the key cost drivers and how they can be managed for processing equipment. They will also understand factors involved in determining the optimal point of ownership and disposal.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the various types of crushers available.

2. Learn what machine fits into what application, and the cost factors for each.

3. Gain safety tips for working around all types of crushers.

Level: Intermediate (6-10 years of on-the-job experience).

Frac Sand: How Technology and Market Dynamics Will Drive Future Success #F41

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Mark Kuhar, editor, Rock Products/Mining Media International

Joel Schneyer, managing director, Headwaters MB

Mark Krumenacher senior principal/senior vice president, GZA Geoenvironmental

Matthew Lear, regional sales manager, McLanahan Corp.

The frac sand market experienced rapid growth from 2012-2015, then began a decline due to low oil prices. Frac sand producers must find new ways to stay profitable and keep the product moving. Savvy producers have been able to take advantage of the “superfracking” of existing wells, and have invested in technology to make operations more efficient. They also learned how to deal with changing market conditions and ongoing community opposition. This educational session will bring attendees up to speed on the economics of the market, which technologies can make them more profitable and how to navigate potential issues.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand current market economics of frac sand.

2. Learn about new technologies to help producers make frac sand, and ship it more profitably and efficiently.

3. Learn how to operate in a community where opposition to hydraulic fracturing and frac sand production is a consideration.

Level: General, applicable to all levels of experience.
